Monorail's first day smooth as 30,515 use new system (Las Vegas Review-Journal) - The Las Vegas Monorail drew 30,515 passengers on its first day of service Thursday, according to company officials, who declined to say whether the number met projections.

Two specific ways they say they're stepping up safety for drivers and pedestrians: better signs and clearer pavement markings. Since the light rail started up in January, there have been 49 accidents. Now, METRO Chairman David Wolff says they're down to an average of one accident a week.
